Sat, May 9th 2009 - Women of the Minotaur on Radio National Poetica
In her first poetry collection published by Tactile Books, Maree Dawes has drawn on the lives of the mistresses and two wives of the artist Pablo Picasso.
Through their voices we gain an insight into Picasso as artist and unfaithful lover. His mistresses included Fernando Oliver, Eva Gouel (also known as Marcelle Humbert), Marie-Therese Walter, photographer Henrietta Theodora Markovitch (also known as Dora Maar) and Francoise Gilot, the only woman to leave Picasso of her own accord. His wives were Olga Koklova and Jacqueline Roque.
Readings by: Lizzy Falkland, Ksenja Logos, Eliza Lovell, Kate Roberts, Antje Guenther, Susie Fraser, Caroline Mignone and commentary from the poet herself.
Production by: Krystyna Kubiak
